About Hannah Russell
Q: Favorite motivational quote?
A: “Believe in yourself” – I love this quote and think it’s important for people to believe in themselves and what they do!
Q: How long have you been writing?
A: I’ve been a published author since I was 17 years old! But I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, I always use to make up stories about all my horses when I was younger. I used to keep diaries of what I had been up to with my horses at the weekend and turn them in to stories on my horses!
Q: What was your favorite subject in school?
Math’s, I hated English which people always find funny but I’m not very good at spelling and always get my words mixed up.
Q: Do you have your own horse? How did you meet?
A: I have four horses all different shapes and sizes! I have 2 miniature Shetland ponies, Little Alf who stands at just 28 inches high due to him having dwarfism! And Pepper who is 34 inches high. I have a Gypsy cob called Paddy and a welsh section C X called Badger. All of my horses are rescues, Badger was my first pony and is now 32 years old.
On Books and Writing
Q: What is your favorite part about writing?
A: Starting a new book, every time I sit down at my desk and begin to write, I get a huge feeling of excitement, I don’t every plot my stories! Usually when I begin writing it just flows and I find it hard to stop.
Q: How do you manage work, writing, and horsing around?
A: I usually end up juggling my life here in the Yorkshire Dales. I have 13 pets in total, and two business to run, but always find time to balance everything. I love spending time with my pets and it’s important to enjoy your hobbies and pets. I never let myself feel stressed that I have a book deadline to meet or work to do when I’m with my animals as it would ruin the enjoyment of everything.
Q: Do you have a series? How many books do you plan for the series?
A: I currently have four books published to the Little Alf adventure series and 1 autobiography published. I have in mind a total of 12 books to the Little Alf books, so I have 8 still to write.
Q: What do you think makes your book different than others?
A: I think my autobiography is different to a lot of books out there – ‘Little Alf – the true story of a pint-sized pony who found his forever home’ it’s the true story of how Little Alf came to live with me at a venerable time in my life. He gave me a new focus and I think it really reflects how horses can heal hearts…
Q: Do you write full time or part time?
A: Full time! It’s taken me a couple of years to be a full-time writer and author, but I reached my goal by the end of 2017! So, 2018 is an exciting chapter for me!
Q: Do you prefer eBooks or physical copies? Why?
A: Physical books, I feel guilty if I read an E-Book, I think we must support paper copies they have been around for many years. I love the feel, smell and texture of books.
Q: Createspace, Lulu, Blurb, Kobo- what’s your pick?
A: LULU! They are amazing!
